IO-Link – for MAC motor® and ServoStep™
Integrated Servo and Stepper Motors

Birkerød, Denmark - JVL A/S, one of the world’s leading producers in the field of integrated servo and stepper motors, can now deliver wireless Ethernet communication for all integrated stepper motors in their ServoStep™ series, from 0.3 to 25 Nm, sizes NEMA 17 to 43.
 
IO-Link is becoming increasingly popular as can be seen on the curve of installed nodes below.
JVL can now also connect to IO-Link via our new IO-Link gateway which can be used on both our MAC motor® integrated servo and ServoStep™ integrated stepper motors.

JVL’s IO-Link can be used on all platforms. Examples include Rockwell, Siemens and Beckhoff.
 
 
 
Save Cost – IO-Link vs Ethernet
Connect multiple JVL drives to an existing Ethernet based network?
Save between 10-15% in the investment costs when integrating JVL drives by using IO-Link instead of a traditional Ethernet based control network.
 
In many of the applications where JVL drives are used, the specific axis is used as a setup axis, only requiring a minimal bandwidth and no hard timing requirement.
 
By using IO-Link and the new JVL IO-Link gateway a JVL drive (servo or stepper) can be controlled directly from the PLC through an IO-Link Master.
 
This Master usually connects directly to the PLC via Ethernet.
 
Even though the IO-Link based JVL control never was intended to be used in hard timing restrained application, reaction times can be very low.
 
For the ServoStep™ integrated stepper motors as an added bonus up to 5 motors can be connected to one IO-Link gateway by utilizing multidrop topology on an internal JVL bus running between the motors.
 
All normal motion functions can be controlled through the IO-Link channel.
For the Rockwell environment AOI’s are supported.
 
The JVL IO-Link Gateway
The JVL IO-Link gateway is placed inside a rugged metal tube.
2 LEDs indicate the current Link status.
The metal gateway screws directly into one of the M12 IO-connectors on the motor and an IO-Link cable is connected to the other end, that goes directly into the IO-Link master.
 
The JVL Gateway is delivered with either 8, 12 or 17-pin connector depending on the type of JVL drive used.

For the MAC motor® integrated servo motor range a MAC00-B4 module is required for each motor. Observe that these drives require one IO-Link gateway per Drive.

For the ServoStep™ series, the Gateway tube connects directly to the 17-pin connector.

All-in-one unit
ServoStep™ has everything built-in including motor, encoder, drive electronics, control electronics with ePLC™ and optional Ethernet or CAN bus integrated into one compact unit. All major industrial Ethernet protocols like Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, SERCOS, ModbusTCP/UDP and Powerlink are available.
Options include: absolute multiturn encoders and STO (safe torque off, SIL3).
Also included are 8 I/O points which can be individually configured as digital input or output – or analogue input. The IOs can be used as local/remote IOs for the central PLC – or used together with the ePLC™ in stand-alone applications.
