Proper power supply sizing is essential for reliable motor performance. During acceleration, motors often require significantly more power than their continuous rating, which means that an oversized power supply or an additional external capacitor may be necessary to ensure stable operation. |
Likewise, when a motor decelerates, it returns energy back into the supply. If this regenerative energy cannot be absorbed, the supply voltage may rise to damaging levels. For that reason, a power‑dump unit is often recommended to safely dissipate excess energy and protect both the motor and the power supply. |
