Which motor to select - Encoder and Homing issues

 
JVL supply a lot of different motors with different encoders.
Here are some information about this issue and how to select.

MAC050-141-A,
MAC140-141-F,
MAC400-4500,
MIS...75,
MIS...66,
MIS...85
 
 
I have a home sensor or limit switch:
 
All the JVL motors equipped with any encoder can be used.
There is no need for an absolute multiturn encoder.
The motor will always know where it is, since the position is controlled within the motor as long as the control voltage is applied.
 
Typical applications:
Applications where there is a fixed sensor or switch that can be used for homing.
 
Incremental encoder is sufficient:
MAC050-141-Ax .......... Incremetal encoder
MAC140-320-F-xx-C* ... Singleturn absolute encoder
MAC400-4500-xx-C* .... Incremental encoder
MISxxxxxxxH2* .......... Singleturn absolute encoder
 
I have no home sensor, but have a mechanical stop:
 
All the JVL MAC motors equipped with any encoder, and all JVL MIS motors equipped with a closed loop encoder can be used.
Please note that this excludes any SMC75 based MIS motor.
There is no need for an absolute multiturn encoder.
The motor will always know where it is, since the position is controlled within the motor as long as the control voltage is applied.
 
Typical applications:
Applications where there is a fixed mechanical position that can be used for mechanical homing.
 
Incremental encoder is sufficient:
MAC050-141-Ax .......... Incremetal encoder
MAC140-320-F-xx-C* ... Singleturn absolute encoder
MAC400-4500-xx-C* .... Incremental encoder
MISxxxQ/R/S/TxxH2* ... Singleturn absolute encoder
 
I have no home sensor nor limit switch:
 
All the JVL motors equipped with an absolute multi turn encoder can be used.
The JVL absolute multi turn encoders will remain control of the position of all times, also when completely without power.
MAC050..141-A and SMC75 based MIS motors are not possible.
 
Typical applications:
Applications where there is a risk that the motor can rotate when control power is off.
 
Absolute multi turn encoder is needed:
MAC140-320-F-xx-F* .... Multiturn absolute encoder
MAC400-4500-xx-F* ..... Multiturn absolute encoder
MISxxxQ/R/S/TxxH4* ... Multiturn absolute encoder
 
I have no home sensor nor possibility for mechanical stop, but the application always operate within one motor revolution:
 
JVL MAC140..320-F with incremental encoder, JVL MAC400..4500 motors with absolute multi turn encoder, and all JVL MIS motors with a standard H2 absolute single turn encoder can be used.
For JVL MIS motors and MAC140..320-F motors there is no need for an absolute multi turn encoder. These motors are equipped with an absolute single turn encoder which can adjust the position at power-up within +-0,5 revolution of the motor shaft.
 
Typical applications:
A turn table mounted directly on the motor shaft.
 
Encoder requirement:
MAC140-320-F-xx-C* .... Singleturn absolute encoder
MAC400-4500-xx-F* ..... Multiturn absolute encoder
MISxxxxxH2* ............... Singleturn absolute encoder
 
I have no home sensor nor possibility for mechanical stop, but the application is locked when voltage is off and maximum rotation is within -/+0.5 motor revolution:
 
JVL MAC140..320-F with incremental encoder, JVL MAC400..4500 motors with absolute multi turn encoder, and all JVL MIS motors with a standard H2 absolute single turn encoder can be used.
For JVL MIS motors and MAC140..320-F motors there is no need for an absolute multi turn encoder.
These motors are equipped with an absolute single turn encoder which can save the position while power is being turned off, and adjust the position at power-up within +-0,5 revolution of the motor shaft.
 
Typical applications:
Applications with a mechanical holding brake.
Applications with a locking worm gear.
 
Encoder requirement:
MAC140-320-F-xx-C* .... Singleturn absolute encoder
MAC400-4500-xx-F* ..... Multiturn absolute encoder
MISxxxxxH2* ............... Singleturn absolute encoder
