Servo or Stepper?
Traditionally servo motors is the go to solution for demanding applications and stepper motors are the first choice for low cost machines.
Standard stepper motor
A stand stepper motor + a puls/direction driver is the starting point for a controlled rotation.
Think of a standard stepper as the seconds hand on a clock. Each puls will move it 1 second forward or backwards.
Rotation occurs when the driver sendes continuous pulses the motor.
This makes a loud squeaking noise, it can lose steps and there is no feedback to confirm the movement.
A main feature is its ability to stand completely still benefit while in requested position.
It is called an open-loop stepper which means a stepper motor without feedback.
Use this solution to get the lowest priced movement possible.
ServoStep motor
While still a stepper motor an added controller and feedback device makes it comparable to a servo motor.
