Behind the new concept of using Ethernet for automation is the IDA group, which — apart from JETTER AG — counts members like Lenze, Phoenix, Schneider Electric, Sick, Turck and more. IDA are part
 
 of IAONA (Industrial Automation Open Networking Alliance) whose most well-known members are ABB, Danaher, Kuka and Rockwell Automation.
The deciding factor was to make the Ethernet time deterministic: this is achieved with 100 Mbit/s and extended use of switches.
